Backdated entry - Bedrock Bar & Grill

Another backdated entry from last year. Lynn heard that this place was good, and I found many reviews comparing it to Morton's. Since we loved Morton's so much, we HAD to try out this place. So off we went for her birthday to Bedrock. Again, this was last year, so pardon my failing memory.

The restaurant was a little too dark for my comfort, but my eyes managed to adjust after some time. After sitting there like an idiot waiting for Lynn who was impossibly late, I ordered some wine to make myself happier while waiting. She finally arrived and we managed to place our orders quite soon with some recommendations from the server. We ordered their special Bedrock Smoked Tomato Soup, bedrock mac n’ cheese (Don't ask me why we did that in a high-end restaurant. Must had been one of those days I had weird cravings.), a 400g black angus Ribeye served with bĂ©arnaise sauce and cut into two to share, foie gras, and A Wedge of Chocolate.

The bread served here was an interesting flat bread, served alongside a maze of garlic and a slab of butter. Had a hard time digging through the garlic skin for the garlic pieces but they did go very well with the bread and butter. The smoked tomato soup, we-ell... it tasted like 'chao da' (burnt) tomato puree with truffle oil to us. This soup effectively put us off tomato soups for a long time. The mac n' cheese, like all classic mac n' cheese, excited us with the first few mouthfuls. The truffle oil added did give it a very special flavor. But we got sick of it midway through. The steak was good quality meat, but we somehow kept comparing it to Morton's, and felt that Morton's were better. The foie gras was nice, but a tad too oily. Probably due to its pan-fried nature.

Bedrock was nice in asking me what we were there for when I called up for reservation, and treated us to a complimentary birthday cake. I think the key thing that was lodge in our memory about this restaurant was the dessert. That Wedge of Chocolate is actually a 85% varlhorna flourless chocolate cake with hazelnut nougatine. It was rich yo, but oh so sinfully good.

But the shock came when the bill arrived. I think we paid ALOT more than what we did at Morton's. Maybe if we hadn't read those reviews comparing it to Morton's, we would have been more open-minded to their food. But the said reviews set a benchmark in our greedy little minds, and we simply couldn't help feeling disappointed with the results we got. I think those reviewers, in their attempt to give positive feed-backs, had failed utterly and gave a negative outcome. We won't be back, not because of poor food quality, but because we feel that we can get something of equal happiness-induction-factor at a fraction the price.
